UN to Cut Food Aid to Bhutanese Refugees

In a statement issued on October 16th, 2009, the United Nations announced that it will be forced to cut food aid to approximately 100,000 Bhutanese refugees living in camps in Nepal as a result of a funding shortage. The WFP (World Food Programme), the food aid branch of the United Nations, does not have sufficient funds to continue providing support for the refugees, and the organization will need an additional $4 million to maintain the assistance.
